One of our bigger ferries to the San Juan Island has been taken out of service by a bent propeller, disrupting the schedule there until further notice.
Ferry officials said the damage was caused after the propeller on the ferry Yakima hit a submerged object near Lopez Island on Sunday.
The Yakima is now being taken to the state ferry system’s Bainbridge Island maintenance facility for emergency repairs. It was unclear how long the repairs would take.
In the meantime, Washington State Ferries has released a temporary schedule for San Juan Islands sailings for Monday.
The sailing times have been adjusted to prioritize domestic travel in the San Juans, canceling the international sailing to and from Sidney, British Columbia. Reservation holders who are not able to travel due to the service disruptions will not be charged the no-show fee.
